Sweel - The Word of the Day

We have had a submission from Joel, one of our readers...

"Sweel. I don't know what it means but I love it. I mean I love the word so much that I want to take it up as a career and become a professional sweeler.

So, for me, sweel is the word of the day!"

Thanks Joel!

Sweel arose from a comment by a self-professed 'Angry old man', on an article by a previous XenoxNews fave Chato. These two miscreants seem to be long gone, but their 'Internet banter' has still retained the ability to excite our readers with its 'sweel'.

So, what is Sweel? When you hear it, doesn't it give you an indefinable moment of pure pleasure? Isn't it like hearing the sound of the whip as it comes cracking down? The noise as their nylon pantsuit is removed? That sweet 'sweel' of the first exhalation from your morning blunt...

I must admit on hearing it, it does give me all these wonderful feelings and more.

You know, it also reminds me of another wonderful word that was very popular with the XenoxNews crew back in the day...

Swish.

Now here is a word that instantly has your mind wandering to the green pastures of existential being. To another world of wonder and enchantment. Where blood engorged statues, like plinths of living flesh, pound away on blonde haired vixens, like Valkyries of the Netherworld. Where their sweetened cries grow louder as they reach the peak of their...

Well, you get the idea.

Why, I can even remember one night when 'Swish!' was spoken aloud and the exclaimers whipped away via a special blue&white vehicle to a hidden concrete box. Here they spent night with a cast of characters you could only find in a Dickens novel. It was truly a wonderful evening of revelry and enlightenment, and only made possible by the utterance of that special word 'Swish!'.

So our dear XenoxNews readers, can you give an example of how you feel when you hear the magic word 'sweel'? Or is there some other word that by it's mere mention you find yourself in a epiphany of wonder? In total serenity and blissfulness of knowledge?

Let us know dear reader! Let us know...

I don't think Sweel is a 'thing'. It is not something that you can catch or eat.
No, it is more than a feeling. When I hear it, my pants rustle and my hands shake. My eyes open up wide, and there she is...
    My sweeling good looking sheila.

Let's get down to the brass tacks here. Sweel sounds like a Feel to me. Hence the empathetic reaction to hearing it. It is a flimsy replication of an already existing word. Nothing more than that!
Hence it should definitely have no place in the Scrabble pantheon. Indeed any one that dares use it should be ostracised like a kwyjibo in the wild!

Me thinks you may be projecting Va|. And that is ok. There is also nothing wrong with being outwardly emotional either. However we professional sweelers shan't be denied our rightful dispensation. Nor shall our credentials be waved off so trivially you scoundrel!

It seems fairly clear that sweel is both a noun and a verb.

@Joel Let's see you on the other side of the board Joel.
You won't be feeling so 'sweel' when my tiles come down, that's for sure.

How about I put them 2 words together. Like...
"I was blowing my joints smoke out like sweel when I heard the swish and clatter of King Carol as he went by."
    Reckon that one works.

I would rather not come off as a smarty pants but may I proffer:

"I was sweeling on a joint when I heard the swish and clatter of King Carol going by."

@Joel Joel, I hope you are not saying 'to sweel' is 'to smoke'. For that would be just dreadful!

Sweeling is sweeling bloke. There is no other word for it. And like a supernova the word is about to storm the literary world. (all thanks to Xenox News) It bodes well for us professional sweelers!

    I think therefore I sweel.

Actually it was a typing error. 'Sweel' was meant to be 'keelhaul'; as in 'I say keelhaul them all!' You know, a bit of good old Pirate rogering. If you read the article the comment was made about that would make sense.

Now I must return to the bottomless depths. Bye for now.

@Angry dead man I have seen this style of co-opting/dismissal before! Sure, I understand how you may want to retain ownership of the word however we professional sweelers shall not be deterred. The sweeling horse has bolted man.

Suggesting that "'sweel' was meant to be 'keelhaul'" is sweel like behaviour in itself! Sweeler!

I reckon your 'sweel' is just a pale imitation of 'swish'.
I was there man, and all your squealing and sweeling is nothing but a hill of beans compared to Swish!

Dear Frank. Swish is a great word. I have no problem with it at all and am rather fond of it myself. However it is clearly an adjective so I can't see any way that it is a replacement for, or in competition with sweel which is both a verb and a noun. I think this has been fairly well established.

I mean Swish has been on the plinth for a long time now. Perhaps it has lost it's relevance and has begun to ossify?

I suppose it is always good to add to the vocabulary of the wicked and wanton...
Therefore I declare 'Sweel' as part of the XenoxNews Canon!
