US WAR ON DEMOCRACY

U.S. State Department Policy Planning Study #23, 1948:

“Our real task in the coming period is to devise a pattern of relationships which will permit us to maintain this position of disparity [U.S. military-economic supremacy]... To do so, we will have to dispense with all sentimentality and day-dreaming... We should cease to talk about vague and...unreal objectives such as human rights, the raising of the living standards, and democratization. The day is not far off when we are going to have to deal in straight power concepts. The less we are then hampered by idealistic slogans, the better.”

— George Kennan
Director of Policy Planning
U.S. State Department
1948

"There is nothing in the U.N. Charter that would allow the U.N. Security Council to make a decision to change the political regime of one country or another — whether we like that regime or not."

Russia and France: two leading lights in international relations!
If the UN security council members want themselves to remain relevant in this post Sept 11 era then they better start listening to world leaders like PMs Blair and Howard. No more time for Saddam. Disarm now or face the consequences.

How come the policy of "containment" worked on the most powerful rival of the USA the defunct USSR? And now we're supposed to believe its not "working" on a vicious little tinpot dicator like Saddam Hussein? The US administration really must think we are all idiots!
